Ex-Aequo: Virtuosos in Concert

  • The Rosette @ Austin Classical Guitar 3908 Avenue B, Suite 116 Austin, TX 78751 United States (map)

Ex-Aequo presents their “Virtuosos in Concert” featuring four of the most exciting emerging artists selected from around the world! Their diverse program will feature virtuosic works for solo guitar and guitar quartet, including the world premiere of Thomas Flippin’s In the Abstract: Eight Sketches on Norman Lewis commissioned for the 2024 Emerging Artists Residency.

Ex-Aequo’s 2024 Artists include:

Kacper Dworniczak (Poland)

Matilde Freiria (Portugal)

Andres Felipe Palacios (Columbia)

Alex Nazaretski (USA)

Ex-Aequo (a Texas 501(c)(3) nonprofit) was founded in late 2019 with a few simple ideas on how we’d like to shape the world of classical guitar as we were connected with many guitarists who were leaders of the “next generation” of artists. This meant fostering collaboration amongst artists, improving elements of the traditional classical guitar culture, and developing an audience.

The Ex-Aequo Emerging Artists Residency is an annual summer program hosted in Austin spotlighting four talented guitarists under the age of 25 from around the world. These artists are selected for their virtuosic talent, musical sensibility, ability to connect with audiences, and their distinctive individual style as performers. During their five-day residency in August, our artists perform in concert together at the Austin Classical Guitar’s Rosette; record a visual album with Drew Henderson; attend career mentorship workshops; and premiere a new quartet work by Thomas Flippin commissioned for Ex-Aequo. Flippin’s composition In the Abstract: Eight Sketches on Norman Lewis consists of 4 short solo pieces and 4 quartets, which are each based on an abstract painting by the 1960s painter Norman Lewis. This residency is an unparalleled opportunity for promising young classical guitarists to perform, collaborate, and record and connect with audiences in Austin, TX and online around the world.
